Abstract
This study examines the ancient Indian practice of yoga, which involves controlling the fluctuations of the mind to achieve a state of deep meditation and self-realization. According to the Katha Upanishad, yoga is the state in which all sensory organs, the mind, and the intellect are completely calm and still. The Bhagavad Gita describes yoga as performing one's duties skillfully without attachment to the results and maintaining equanimity in all circumstances.
Yoga has two primary objectives: spiritual and practical. Spiritually, it involves controlling the senses and realizing the soul and the Supreme Being, leading to liberation from all sufferings and achieving ultimate bliss (moksha). Practically, it helps practitioners maintain equanimity in loss and gain, honor and dishonor, cold and heat, and other situations, while performing their duties without concern for the results.
